Scotch Enthusiasts: Donate a Bottle / Volunteer to Pour a Dram

Attention all Murch community scotch and bourbon enthusiasts: The 2014 Murch Auction will feature a Scotch/Bourbon Sampling Bar and we need your help to stock it, to barkeep it, and to drain it.

How It Will Work

Auction attendees will be able to contribute $30 via their bid number for a series of top flight samples of premium and rare scotches and bourbons. There may be a commemorative glass to go along with the donation. We're asking Murch community members like you to donate a bottle of their favorite high-end scotch or bourbon -- or one they’d like to try -- to stock the bar. Anyone who donates will be able to sample as well.

Donate a Bottle of Scotch/Bourbon

We would like to stock the bar with premium bottles. Bottles of Bowmore 18, Oban 18 and Highland Park 18 have been donated already. To make a donation simply fill out this donation spreadsheet (linked to below). Add your name and bottle of choice and then tell us a little something about it -- a brief description or perhaps a personal tale about that magical night on the Isle of Skye or in the rafters of Rupp Arena when you first tried it. Then you can arrange to deliver the bottle to Greg Stohr's house (3229 Military Rd, Map) or Tim Lordan's house (4306 37th St, Map) or just let us know where we can pick it up (gstohr@hotmail.com, tlordan@gmail.com).

And we’ll be looking for bartenders. People with a deep knowledge about scotch or bourbon are especially welcome. You can add your name to the spreadsheet

Where To Purchase

The Montgomery County Liquor Control store at Friendship Heights (Map, right by the Giant) and Ace Liquors on New Mexico Avenue (Map) have good selections. Calvert-Woodley has a smaller selection, but they say they can order many things and get delivery within 2 or 3 days. Other options include Bells Wine & Spirits on M Street Downtown (Map) and Schneiders of Capitol Hill (Map).

Here is a chart that might be useful in picking out a scotch.  If you have other suggestions for people who might not know what scotch or bourbon to buy, let us know; neither of us purports to know all that much about scotch or bourbon so we'll appreciate any expertise you can lend.

Spread the Word

We also need help spreading the word so if you know of someone who might be interested in donating, by all means forward this link: http://murchwhiskey.blogspot.com/ .

We’re hoping this will be one of the highlights of the auction, and we can use your help to make it happen. Let us know if we can answer questions. And all proceeds will benefit the Murch auction.
